About Us

The Fox Valley Memory Project was born out of a community breakfast and think tank held in the fall of 2011. Concerned individuals and professionals joined in a discussion to identify areas of impact that were most needed to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia in our community. Fueled by this input, representatives from various agencies and organizations formed a Steering Committee to give momentum and vision to the mission to address these areas of need. After obtaining critical funding from local foundations, the Steering Committee hired staff, engaged volunteers, informed the public of its goals, and set on a path to create a dementia-friendly community that cares, engages, respects and supports those experiencing dementia and their loved ones.

The Fox Valley community embraced the project and we were off and running! We have a committed group of trained volunteers to assist with the Memory Cafés at seven locations throughout the Fox Valley and beyond. Generous community organizations and agencies contribute staff, facility space and other in-kind donations. We are able to offer creative and inventive programs designed to “draw out” those experiencing dementia and their loved ones. New friendships, creative engagement, new learning and enhanced self-esteem are a byproduct of these gatherings.

We opened the doors to the Memory Loss Resource Center in the spring of 2013 and we welcome those experiencing dementia, their family members and friends to come in on an individual basis for information and support or to participate in the various groups and activities formed to engage and enhance the quality of life for those involved.

We offer community education events for the greater public and for the professional community, outreach and support to long term care facilities, and will be meeting in the near future with employers throughout the area to see how we might assist caregivers and those experiencing early stage dementia in the workplace. Partner, Mosaic Family Health, provides comprehensive memory assessments within the home and family structure. They work with patient’s primary care providers to share information. They also provide in-home caregiver support and coaching for those caring for persons with significant memory loss. We continue to engage in ongoing research and we look for new partners, funders and volunteers to help us change the culture in the Fox Valley to be more inclusive and respectful of those we love who live in our midst.
