On a Positive Note Chorus
Fox Valley Memory Project’s “On a Positive Note” chorus has offered people having a dementia and their care partners the joy of singing together since 2014. We’re proud of all our chorus members and happy that some have chosen to continue in the chorus even after their loved one has moved to memory care or has passed away.
Choruses like ours are being formed all over the world and researchers are paying attention. They are finding many positive physical and mental health benefits. We’re always happy to welcome new people to be part of the “On a Positive Note” chorus. Our reputation is growing throughout the Valley and we are getting more invitations to perform in different venues. When asked to perform, we plan about six weekly, hour-long rehearsals to prepare our music.
Our Director, Kathleen Albrecht, selects a wonderful variety of familiar songs for us to sing. We love putting on our colorful t-shirts and sharing the joy of choral singing with our audiences. Practices are held at Thompson Community Center on Lourdes and performances are scheduled across the Fox Valley. Please consider joining the On a Positive Note chorus, even if you don’t think you have a voice for it. No singing ability is required!
Fox Valley Memory Project hosts dementia-friendly bus trips each year. These trips are quite unique to Fox Valley Memory Project and are designed for those with memory loss along with their care partners and loved ones. Enjoy a day-long excursion visiting a main attraction, enjoying lunch with friends, and making one or two adventurous “detours” along the way!
Throughout the year, Fox Valley Memory Project gives participants, care partners, friends and newcomers the opportunity to get together to enjoy good times and community events the Fox Valley area has to offer. This includes dinners out, local music in the park, area festivals, and other community gatherings. It’s an opportunity to connect, live life to the fullest, and celebrate the relationships we have together!
