Purple Angel Awareness Trainings

A growing number of businesses, organizations and public institutions are training their employees to offer hospitality and support to those with memory loss, cognitive decline, or other symptoms associated with a dementia. These establishments are identified by the Purple Angel decal displayed in the window. Those with a dementia and their care partners are welcome and will be supported at these locations. Please thank the establishments for displaying the Purple Angel. Encourage any agencies you know to become a Purple Angel trained establishment.

Over the years, many local businesses and organizations have become a part of this valuable program. Organizations as diverse as restaurants, banks and credit unions, realtors, school districts, construction and design companies, and churches.

Dementia Capable Community Trainings

In addition to Purple Angel Trainings, Fox Valley Memory Project offers Dementia Capable Community Trainings.  Dementia Capable Community Training offers a more focused training approach, with multiple presentations including: Healthcare professionals, community members, and other professionals.  Dementia Capable Community Trainings support the development of a dementia-friendly Fox Valley, we provide dementia training to individuals, groups, businesses, and more. Upon completion, businesses and organizations can display a Purple Angel sticker signifying their dementia friendliness.

Community Education

Through community outreach and education, Fox Valley Memory Project seeks to eliminate the fear and stigma associated with memory loss that creates barriers to fully participating in life. We emphasize engaging in the community and with others, and remaining focused on what each individual with memory loss can do, rather than what they cannot do.

In addition to our Dementia Trainings for businesses and organizations, we offer everything from small seminars on specific topics to large community educational programs featuring well-known speakers. These are open to persons having dementia, care partners, people employed in various forms of dementia care, etc. We also seek to educate young people about living as well as possible with dementia and have offered programs in middle schools and high schools.

To discuss educational opportunities, contact Mike Rohrkaste, Executive Director, at [email protected].
